These genuine lava beads are made from cooled volcanic magma, which forms lava. These stones are very lightweight and have naturally formed small pores that vary in size. Since lava beads are so porous, one innovative application is to infuse the beads with essential oils to create aromatherapy jewelry.

Our gemstone beads are sold in a wide range of sizes and materials. Strung on 16 inch strands, we carry excellent grades of material with good shape, sizing and finish. However, since each bead is the result of handcrafted lapidary work, you should still expect some natural variation in color and sizing.

But one question we receive is, why do lava rocks have wax in them? Since natural lava rocks have many holes and fracture points, they may break or chip when shaped into beads and gemstones. That is why factories add wax to the material before cutting and shaping the lava rocks. As a result, most of the lava rock cabochons and beads sold by JFAllen are waxed. However, these lava rocks are still great for using in aromatherapy jewelry and other designs once the wax is removed. To remove the wax, you can follow these instructions.
